This coding course offers you an immersive 10-session learning experience to build your skills in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. In this course, you begin by learning the basics of responsive web design and develop all the necessary skills to build interactive web pages. In the second half of the course, we’ll add interactivity to the websites and create new ways for visitors to interact with your content. Your instructors will provide industry alignment and will connect students to partners and career pathways related to computer science and coding. This course includes mentoring and regular help-desk office hours to ensure student success, and to identify extension opportunities when relevant. Students will work on a capstone project throughout the course and will demonstrate their work at the end of the 10 sessions.
This coding course is provided to students who are new to coding as well as to those who have a basic grounding in coding and wish to reinforce their knowledge. This course will enable you to enhance your coding skills knowing it will widen your post-secondary options and expand your career opportunities.

Learn the fundamentals of flexbox and dynamic layouts by building a Twitter card.

SummerUp’s Coding: Introduction to HTML, CSS & JavaScript course enables Black youth to create and innovate using code. Students will learn how to program, build web pages and develop interactive stories. They will also have a chance to consider the many careers for which coding skills are a necessity, and the value a basic knowledge of coding brings to other career fields.

A smartphone is not a suitable device for this course. As well, you must commit to attending all scheduled learning sessions (see dates and times below).
Admissions Process: All eligible applicants will be considered for admission. Refer to application deadlines at https://llileaders.com/summerup/ Applicants must attend an orientation session.
Start/Stop Dates: Coding: HTML, CSS, JavaScript will be offered over ten sessions starting Tuesday, July 12 and ending Thursday, August 28, 2022. Each 90-minute session will commence at 2.30 p.m. and end at 4.00 p.m.

To do well in this coding course, students must have a suitable computer and reliable Internet access. A mobile device is not suitable. Students who do not have the required device should request a loan of this equipment from their high school.
Sharon Ikechi is a technology leader and her expertise is rooted in two academic credentials and her extensive work history. Her credentials include a BSc degree in Computer Technology and an MSc degree in Computer Science. Originally from Nigeria, Sharon recently relocated to Canada. She has five years’ work experience as a curriculum developer and learning program manager in the information technology sector. She has collaborated with teams across the world to develop curricula and learning programs for both the Edtech and Business Sector.
