Students admitted to Leadership by Design (LBD) since 2016
Since 2013, LLI has helped Black youth turn talent into achievement — closing opportunity gaps and delivering the learning experiences that build tomorrow’s leaders. Leadership development is our platform; student success is our purpose.

I'm a high school student ready to build leadership skills and explore my future.
I represent an organization or business that wants to collaborate with LLI.
I'd like to volunteer, mentor, or give financially to support Black youth.
Under the LLI umbrella, two programs work together — Leadership by Design develops leaders year-round, while SummerUp keeps students learning and ready through the summer months.
A curriculum that is rich in leadership-advancement opportunities, career-exploration pathways, and encouragement to become engaged citizens.
LLI’s Summer learning opportunities deepen intellectual curiosity, address inequities, and enhance academic readiness for the coming fall semester.

Students, alumni and parents share how Leadership by Design has shaped their confidence, their friendships and the paths they’re building.
LBD has allowed me to feel more comfortable with who I am as a person. I feel more comfortable going into spaces knowing what I’m able to do.
The LBD program has been a blessing. We’ve always felt welcomed, and it’s wonderful to be surrounded by a culturally familiar environment.
It was a turning point for me. LBD taught me the importance of believing in myself and made me stand out among my peers.
Even as an educator who’s been teaching for almost 30 years, I learned something every single time I participate in an LBD event.
[LBD has] given me the skills to be able to sell myself and tell people why I deserve it. And to also believe that I deserve it.
I love the smaller environment and the dedicated support. We get to explore different areas of science in the University of Toronto’s labs.
LBD created a really brave space for kids … those are conversations that we don’t always have at the school level.
I found it really fun. It was a fun experience meeting new people and I really liked having the group discussions.
I learned conflict resolution and how to make sure everyone has a voice and is treated fairly.
LBD does a very good job at putting so many successful adults and students in a room to mentor and nurture each other and foster an overall family and community. I really love LBD.
We met so many people at LBD who were like us, who looked like us. I made some amazing friends.
I knew one-hundred percent that this is what I want to do.
Intellectual curiosity is a critical leadership skill. LLI encourages students to read, observe, probe, listen, question, venture into the unknown, challenge assumptions, and lead with insight. In our speaker series, students host guest speakers and engage them with thoughtful, probing questions.
